The AMI Montessori 12–18 Orientation provides foundational Montessori theory and principles for supporting adolescent development (12-18 years). Lecture topics focus on the central principles of Montessori, the needs and characteristics of the adolescent, and the key principles that support Study and Work for this stage of human development, including the prepared environment, the role of the adult, and the importance of experiencing social and economic independence.

The course will meet twice a week on Zoom and include 20 hours of lectures and discussion related to adolescent development. Participants must observe adolescents or an adolescent community for 2 hours and write a summary of those observations. Requires an additional reflective piece of writing.
Meeting time will be 7:00 - 9:00 pm EDT on Tuesdays and 10:00 am - 12:00 noon EDT on Saturdays.
Participants who complete the course requirements will receive an AMI Certificate of Completion. Lecturers and presenters include AMI trainers and AMI-trained practitioners with extensive experience in the field of Montessori adolescent work.
Certificate Requirements:
90% attendance online
Lectures occur on Saturday mornings 10:00 am – 12:00 noon EDT and Tuesday evenings 7:00-9:00 pm EDT - September 7th through October 8th, 2024.
One 1-2 page reflection due September 28, 2024.
2 hours of observation of adolescents in general – either immediately after or parallel to the course. Specific topics to focus on will be given for observation.
One 1-2 page reflection on observations due October 8th, 2024.
Required Hours: 20 hours of course work online plus 3 hours of asynchronous work plus 2 hours of observation
